Aspen Winter Snow Horse

I was fortunate to have many incredible experiences in 2013.  Some through my work with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic, and some personal.  Not all of the trips started out with an airport that looked like this (JFK at sunrise), but it’s how I like to remember them.

First there was Baja California, where I saw a beautiful dance…

And discovered the power of the abstract.

Then Seattle, where I sampled the region’s produce

And went for a hike.

In Aspen I learned that I love horses.

Maybe a little too much.

And I found peace on an old farm road.

In Quito, Ecuador, I stumbled upon masses of people waiting to hear the election results and a speech from President Correa.

They were pretty fired up.

Elsewhere all was quite.

And the imposing Iglesia de San Francisco was breathtaking.

In Galapagos I met up with some strange creatures.

And I saw landscapes I thought only existed on other planets.

Then it was back to New York for a while.

When the end of summer came we found inspiration in Maine, Monhegan Island and Campobello Island in Canada.

In September I had the privilege to visit the islands of Haida Gwaii, off the coast of British Columbia.

Most recently, it was to Philadelphia, my old and new home

Where my wife and I settled in over Christmas

A lot can happen in a year.  You can see A LOT of places, meet tons of interesting people and gain an entirely new way of looking at the world.  You don’t always have to go very far.  As last night’s photo proves, that new perspective can be easier to find than you think.  What a difference a day makes.  365 of them in 2014.  Take advantage of every one.

Thanks again to #frifotos for the thematic inspiration. I hope you all enjoy and have a fantastic year.
